Bangladesh is called the land of rivers or the gift of rivers. Almost 300 rivers criss-crossed the country. Outflow of water from Bangladesh is the 3rd highest in the world, after the Amazon and Congo systems. Rivers plays always-important role in the life of people. Major rivers are Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, Brahmaputra and Karnaphuli. It has been an inseparable part of people as they are accompany of happiness and also for sorrow when it makes flood. These great rivers and their innumerable tributaries which are considered as life-line of the rural Bengal had immense influence on the socio-economic and cultural life of the people.
