Geographically, Bangladesh is an interesting country lying at the junction of the Indian and Malayan sub-regions of the Indo-malayan realm.
The Country may be divided into four physical regions. The Ganges- Brahmaputra Delta, the Barind tract the central Region and Chittagong Region. While the Ganges Brahmaputra supports evergreen mangrove forest the central regions is supporting deciduous Sal forest and Haor basin.
The Chittagong region in the south-east Bangladesh is comprised of series of moist semi evergreen forested hill ranges and Valleys running north to south parallel to the west coast line of Bay of Bengal. The Barind tract, once rich in Sal forest became devoid of any forest cover other than homestead jungles. Considering the area of the country. Bangladesh is amazingly rich in its faunal diversity. A recent study shows that Bangladesh is sustaining 650 species of Birds, 125 species of mammals, 135 species of reptiles and amphibians, over 225 species of butterflies and 400 species of finfishes.
